Stephen Joseph was
Alan Ayckbourn's mentor and encouraged him on the first steps to
becoming a playwright. Stephen was a remarkable and inspirational figure
in British Theatre in the UK during the 1950s and 1960s and published a
number of important texts. His book Theatre In The Round not only
details the history of the UK's first professional in-the-round company
at the Library Theatre, Scarborough, but still stands as the definitive
text about theatre-in-the-round.
