Stephen Joseph Theatre: A Photographic Record

In 1996, the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough was opened. A £5.2m conversion of the town's former Odeon cinema and the first purpose-designed home for the UK's first professional theatre-in-the-round company founded by Stephen Joseph in 1955 and subsequently run baby Alan Ayckbourn since 1972.

To coincide with the opening of the building, this glossy 36 page publication was published with photographs by Adrian Gatie chronicling the conversion of the building from cinema to theatre. Accompanying the photos is a short commentary by Alan Ayckbourn about the theatre and its new home.

It is a rare opportunity to see Adrian Gatie's record of the conversion as the majority of the photographs have not been reproduced since 1996.

Published in 1996 and never republished,
Stephen Joseph Theatre: A Photographic Record is an as new first edition of the publication and, obviously, quite rare now. Stock is limited.
